Institute of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies

The Institute of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies offers the Fine Arts diploma curriculain the three artistic disciplines Sculpture-Transmedial Space, Experimental Art, Painting & Graphic Art and the branch of study Applied Studies of Culture and Art as well as bachelor and master courses for the two programmes Sculptural Concetions /Ceramics and textile·art·design All curricula focus on topical fields of fine arts. In keeping with the mission statement of Kunstuniversität Linz, intermedial perspectives are given special attention. The profile of the Institute derives from the combination of cultural study and research with artistic practice. This linkage of art and science is at the centre of all teaching activities and informs the development and interpretation of both art and research at the Institute. The curricula, too, are characterised by a project- and audience-oriented working style as well as by the free choice of work focuses. Students of the Fine Arts diploma programmes may either decide for one of the three artistic disciplines or, during the course of their studies, are free to independently select their work focus from the offerings of all disciplines. Students of the Sculptural Conceptions / Ceramics and textile.art.design curricula are trained in material-oriented skills in connection with the development, implementation and reflection of projects.
Conversely, the two scientific disciplines of Cultural Studies as well as of Art History and Art Theory emphasise fundamental theoretical work.
