INFORMATION
Unser Zusammenleben durchläuft derzeit einen Wandel, bei dem sich zwei hochkomplexe und offene Systeme verschränken: die Stadt und das globale, digitale Informationssystem. Die digitale Welt ist nicht mehr eine bloße Spiegelung der physischen, vielmehr amalgamiert sie sich mit der physischen Welt und produziert immerwährend neue Formen von cyber-physical landscapes. Wie sehen diese neuen Landschaften aus? Wer produziert diese Räume und wie verändern sie unsere Alltagserfahrung? Expeditionen in diese Landschaften sind buchstäbliche Reisen ins Unbekannte. Es gibt nur wenige Landkarten davon und diese müssen kontinuierlich neu gezeichnet werden.
Manuela Naveau und Ian Banerjee wurden als Gastprofessoren für das Sommersemester 2021in das Future.Lab der TU nach Wien geholt, um gemeinsam mit den Studierenden genau diese Verschränkung des physischen und digitalen Raumes zu untersuchen. NOSING AROUND IN CYBER-PHYSICAL LANDSCAPES ist der Vorschlag ihrer Methode (Nosing around war eine Methode der ersten Stunde der Stadtsoziologie der Chicago School rund um Robert E. Parks) und in Form von öffentlichen Lehrveranstaltungen möchten sie das Thema auch außerhalb universitärer Institutionen einer Öffentlichkeit zur Diskussion anbieten.

The digital world is no longer a mere reflection of the physical world, but rather amalgamates with it and continually produces new forms of cyber-physical landscapes. What do these new landscapes look like? Who produces these spaces and how do they change our everyday experience? Expeditions into these landscapes are literal journeys into the unknown. There are only a few maps of them and they need to be continually re-drawn.
Manuela Naveau and Ian Banerjee have been asked by the Future.Lab at TU Vienna to collaborate as visiting professors for the 2021 summer semester to explore precisely this interweaving of physical and digital space together with the students. NOSING AROUND IN CYBER-PHYSICAL LANDSCAPES is the proposal of their method (Nosing around was a method of the first hour of the urban sociology of the Chicago School around Robert E. Parks) and in the form of public lectures they would like to offer the topic for discussion also outside university institutions.
