The relation between Media Art and Contemporary Art has been extensively debated in the latest decades. However, considering the expansion of Media Art in various hybrid approaches, in recent times is possible to observe some instances of integration. This research proposal aims to constitute a theoretical framework for the development of artistic methodologies concerned about the topics of Media Art under a Contemporary Art perspective. This will be achieved by clarifying the theoretical and critical aspects which influenced the relation between these two different approaches, acknowledging the agency of the art market for the legitimation of art status. The whole discussion needs to account the current cultural displacement provoked by media technologies in the broad social context, and its influence in the artistic production. This requires a study of the storytelling strategies, developed by both contemporary and media artists.
